Barriers to the green movement

Weinber sees national culture and political differences in the EU member states as a barrier to moving the Green movement beyond northwestern Europe (GEF [21:42]). In particular the Green movement is challenged to try to enter politics in Central and Eastern Europe:

The Greens are an expression of post-industrial, post-modern, urban civilisation. The Greens are prepared to revisit and question the acquis communautaire and are supported by the upper-middle class that are concerned about what happens with those challenged by transformation. If you go to Central and Eastern Europe and try to sell this as the political project of the centre-left you are missing the point. Left in Central and Eastern Europe is the old power. It is conservative and authoritarian. The heirs of the communists are many things, but not a modernising element.
